Tabenings - Farewell August

Nothing much to report from my end - RL continues to fill my days with non-porn-producing activity.

If you hadn't seen, over on DA, Dollmistress ran a little game in her Gallery wherein commentators got to vote for and against several characters as they tried (and failed) to escape being dolled. It was pretty awesome, though I am equally in awe at her ability to crank out over a hundred sexy renders and story text in a weekend.

I really have to try again to learn how to render. Thus far my efforts have met with frustration, but it's just too appealing a skillset not to acquire. As you are probably aware, I used to make imagealters (rather a lot of them) and was pretty good at it - and it taught me pretty much everything I know about Photoshop, which I now use on an infrequent but regular basis for totally non-smut projects.

If I could figure out how to render characters up to my exacting standards, I could move forward with the game I've been plotting for several years. The zeitgeist in the smut community definitely seems to be with games in this year of our Lord 2016, and I sure do enjoy me some video games - hell, I've even created one, though it had nothing to do with smut. And was written in C. In the 90s.

Anyhow, guess I'll put that on my to-do list:
a) Learn to render, successfully this time
b) Write mailbag blog post
c) Write 'smut sites I visit' blog post
d) Finish 'Pierced'
e) Finish 'Compromise'

Hrm. Maybe I should put it at the bottom.

  1. Is that list prioritized from top to bottom? *worries selfishly*

btw. I think you also made a RAGS game that was extremely fun to scurry around in. You are already quite branched-out :)

  2. I unselfishly wish you all the luck in teaching yourself how to render. I tried my hand at it myself, but learned I'm very OCD about meshes clipping.

So hopefully you've better luck with that.

Have you given any thought about what you'll use to make said smut game?

  3. That list should be
    a) Finish 'Pierced'
    b) Finish 'Compromise'
    c) Write mailbag blog post
    d) Learn to render, successfully this time
    e) Write 'smut sites I visit' blog post

Rendering is not at the bottom because whatever you do it will be worth it for your fans.

    2. I mean seconding the smut sites she visits. Though that being said, I don't mind "Pierced" being at the top.

  4. I've experimented with rendering on and off over the years, and like you, I've never gotten any good at it. I suspect a lot of that is because it shares a lot of the same skill set with 3D modeling, which I simply know nothing about.

If you don't have the costumes you want, you need to find them and buy them - or 3D model them and create textures for them. The problem is, I'm a terrible artist. I suspect I would need a top notch mentor for a long while to even get slightly good at it.

That's not to say it isn't worth while (of course it is!), but it is a large project, and large projects always seem to do their best to scare me away.

As usual, it's always about time and motivation. My inspiration and imagination is always 30 steps ahead of my ability to execute.

Good luck with getting your list accomplished!

    1. That was always my problem with CGI art, when I was attempting to mess around with it. To buy a model, pose it and render it is easy.
But once I need to actually express something, illustrate, etc., suddenly CGI becomes one of the hardest mediums for the job.
In terms of artistic expression, I can do more in half an hour with a pencil than I can do in week with CGI.
      Still it's a good hobby, nonetheless! :D

    2. Exactly. It's requires direction and vision as to what you want it to look like. And, I suspect, a good deal of observation and study of human poses to get good at it.

I've never been a great designer/artist, so that's always hamstrung me. So far I've just stuck to writing, as I seem to be passable at it.

  5. In my defence it was a bank holiday weekend, so I had extra time for focusing on the text.

Thanks for the mention! I really liked the way that voting meant I had no way of knowing how things would play out. It's left me with several alternative endings to use on other things :)

    1. Dollmistress, is that you? :)

That was a delicious sequence of renderings. Bravo!
